August also saw Kentico release a free Kentico CMS Connector for Microsoft SharePoint, allowing business users to create content on their SharePoint intranet and to publish it on public-facing Kentico web sites.
This is a great move by Kentico, allowing organizations to work around the lack of Web Content Management features within Microsoft SharePoint whilst also simplifying the publishing workflow.
Surprisingly, the connector works with all editions of Kentico CMS 4 including the free version.
The Kentico position is that the fast adoption of Microsoft SharePoint leaves many organizations in a difficult situation, since SharePoint doesn’t provide a complete solution for public-facing web sites, leaving users to manage their online content via other systems. Kentico addresses this by allowing users to create content in the SharePoint environment they are already familiar with and publish it automatically to Kentico-powered public sites. This should enable organizations to publish content faster, with lower costs, and with better control over the content lifecycle.
Needless to say we will be installing Sharepoint, putting the connector in place and getting back to you with a review. The connector is available free of charge at the Kentico website, within the Kentico Marketplace. You can read more about the connector at:
